Just Some Old Hedge Wood!

Thought you might find this interesting. My talented Craftsman was getting ready to turn a Pepper Mill Salt Shaker Combo and was looking around the shed deciding what wood to use.

He was trying to find just the right thing, had to be big enough square to turn on the lathe, but he didn't want to glue up a piece. There was plenty out there to choose from, Catalpa, Red Oak, White Oak, Walnut.

Then he noticed the piece of Osage Orange (Hedge) lying there on the floor. Low and behold, it was plenty big enough to turn the pepper mill from.

Problem was, it was a little too big to drag all the way into the shop. So, he gets his trusty chain saw and cut off a bite size piece!

After getting it all cut down, sized up, turned on the lathe, sanded and polished, this is what he ended up with!

 Beautiful wood!

Have a great day and God Bless!
